Mego Tarzan (Mego Item # 1305)
The Lord of the Jungle gets a bad wrap for his flesh tights, but he was an early figure produced originally on a type 1 body which made it neccesary to cover up the joints. If Tarzan had have been produced later, he's have been given the Conan treatment.
Alot of fans ask "Why Tarzan" and when I asked Neal Kublan he answered "He was my favorite character" which makes alot of sense. Apparantly Mr. Kublan had to travel to Tarzana California just to negotiate the rights with E.R.B's estate.
Tarzan's tenure at Mego was short, this was due to ERB licensing out toys for an upcoming Tarzan cartoon and Film and Mego didn't really appreciate that. In 1976, Mattel launched a Tarzan toy line based on the filmation TV Series.

Boxed Figures
The above Window Boxed Tarzan is a Type 2 which is the less common version. Note the differences between this figure and in the one in the header photo.
Second issue Tarzan box removes Captain America from the Header. Note the sides have downsized from 8 to 6 sides and the text has changed from black to white.
Carded Figures

Above is an early issue Mego Kresge carded Tarzan courtesy of Palitoy. One of the dead giveaways is the appearance of Captain America in the Header as DC and Marvel insisted their heroes be broken up.

Here is a Mego Kresge carded Tarzan with a Mego catalog instered. Please note that this is a later model Kresge card and it features The Lord of the Jungle mingling with the Mego DC Heroes, despite the fact that the museum has him in Marvel, this proves he was a DC character at the time. (there i admit it)
Pictured is the Mego Mexican Fist Fighting Tarzan produced by Lili Ledy under License by Mego. It
seems Mexican toys had to be produced on Mexican soil, so cool variations abound. The headsculpt and clothing material are very different to the US Mego Tarzan, also he is one of the rarest Lili Ledy Mego figures. Courtesy of BraIn Despite the fact that they would drop the character shortly, Mego continued to push Tarzan into assortments with newer characters as evidenced by this 1974 Mego Display Box Header card.
