The Amazing Mego Spiderman. (Digital Image by Scott C Adams)

There is something remarkably satisfying about Mego Spiderman's head, and I think the Mego version is the best example of this. The lack of black lines on the mask is made up by the recessed texture, the embossed eyes. Not to mention the detail of a nose under the mask, something you won't find in any other Spidey figure. Small things, to be sure, but it's a real pleasure to hold, and texture is EVERYTHING with Megos. Plus, as the most common Mego, he's easy to find for a good price.

However, you might have trouble finding the examples below: (Left) Courtesy Brian Heiler. A Japanese Mego/Popy Spiderman! Very nice... (Right) Courtesy Rob Chatlin: The first version of Spiderman featured the distinctive Circle Insignia. Seen standing next to Alter-Ego Peter Parker.

Spidey is the only Marvel Character to be included in the Mego Alter Ego set from Montgomery Wards.

Mego Circle Suit Spiderman and the rare Montgomery Wards Peter Parker figure

This just in: Collectors more observant than I pointed out the difference in Mego Spiderman outfits. I missed it completely. The tight, hourglass cut design has a larger spider and I believe it is an older version of the outfit, as late model carded Spideys have the wide cut design. Note the wide-cut has a hollow spider body that shows the blue fabric through. Kudos to Tony Gray for being the first to bring this up amongst the Mego group.

Here we have the Rare Electric Company Spiderman Mego box. I was expecting something really cool for some reason, but this is it. Of a personal mystery to me is that you don't often see Spidey boxed.

Mego Spiderman is most commonly found in the French Pin Pin Toys card seen below, most people mistake it for Canadian but it's directly from France! Courtesy of Troy Maynus.

Below is the early Kresge Mego card (which mixes DC and Marvel) and the later "Marvel characters only" version of the Spiderman Kresge card and the version with a catalog insert

Below Tom shares the 3 kinds of Mego boxes, yet again I learn something.

And here Tom shares the more Mego card variations, proving Tom has a great eye for detail.

He was Megos most produced figure and the variations abound, below Spider Uber collector John S Piasecki shares his abundant knowlege of Spiderman variants from his collection.

Just a tiny sampling of the Spiderman merchandise produced by Mego.
