Superman
So what more is there to say, but he's the man! He's simply Super. And let me tell you, there is no more satisfying a fly around the house than with the Mego Super-poseable Man Of Steel. Look at his face. He cares. Further, let's all take a moment to contemplate the power of primary colors. I don't care what you say about the character, his powers or adventures or villains or whatnot. You can't HAVE a Mego collection without a Superman. They are cheap. Go get one and join my cult, er...club... Image note: Megos don't pose with their fists on their hips unless they have been processed through Photoshop.
Box Variations Solid Box Superman courtesy of Brian (Palitoy), This is the very first Superman Mego produced, note the larger chest sticker and purple suit. Scott Arendsen sent in his Solid box Supes and he's one of the lucky ones who got a sticker on the cape! Hey Scott, need a house sitter?.
Early boxed Superman features all eight of the WGSH, whether they were Marvel or DC. That was changed later on. Later edition of the Superman box replaces Marvels Captain America with Captain Marvel (Shazam!) Holy Moley provided by Mr Arendsen. Card Variations
First issue Superman has the large S even on the kresge and beside it another early Kresge Superman Card courtesy of Scott Arendsen, Note this is the first Kresge card and look at the selection of heroes!
Kresge Superman Card courtesy of Brian (Palitoy), This variation adds Tarzan and Cap to the header and includes the Mego Logo. This card would change 2 more times.
Tom has donated this chart to show all the variations of the Man of Steel Cards. I'm a big fan of Tom.
Foreign Releases Palitoy UK Card(Note the missing emblem on Palitoy Card.
Happens more often than you'd think) UK Fist Fightin' Superman was exclusivley made by Palitoy. Lucky English Kids. Courtesy of Palitoy (not the company, the collector).
![]() Not drooling yet? Well then check out this ULTRA rare Mexican Superman produced by Lily Ledy. Ledy had the rights to produce Mego figures on their own soil, a MIB example is hard to find. Courtesy of the super great Luis Felipe. Superman was featured in every hero line Mego produced, Only Batman and Spiderman share that distinction: NEW! The Japanese Superman box. Distributed by the Popy Company of Japan this box bears no mention whatsoever of the Mego Corp. which is interesting considering other foreign distributors such as Italy's Baravelli, Britain's Palitoy or Mexico's Lili-Ledy, all of which bore Mego trademark information. Some sort of Japanese trade practice deal. These are standard Megos. Look in the Spiderman and Batman Galleries for more.
A real treat with these is the box art. Some of the best you'll see on a Mego box, and that's saying something. leave it to the Japanese to design a killer Mego box. Dig the classic Neal Adams Batman. All scans from ME. Click here for a larger version of the box art. A line up of the many different ways Mego marketed Superman. Courtesy of Brian.
