My daughter wanted to paint on the weekend so I thought it would be fun to do an imaginary packaging art for the "lincoln victim" figure. Not entirely happy with it but I'll take another pass next weekend.

As i started sketching, I realized I didn't come up with this on my own. I was copying something from memory. I started googling comic covers and sure enough, I was swiping the concept from Wrightson! Seeing that Lincoln swiped from Gray Morrow, it seemed fitting.

Wow, you got pretty close considering it was just in your subconscious!

Nerd factoid: Wrightson's model for that cover was Louise Jones. Then married to Jeffery Jones, and now married to Walt Simonson, and a fine comic editor and writer in her own right.

        Nice work!

Great stuff Brian, I think you did a good job of capturing Mr Rock's look. I was wondering where your new avatar came from. And that's funny how you were subconciously copying that HoS cover. I've always loved that Wrightson cover. And really interesting fact Chris, I had no idea that Louise Simonson was the model for that.

I haven't painted since high school, and when I was in my teens and early twenties I used to draw like a fiend but really haven't done so in quite awhile, and I feel bad about that. I really should change that, and getting your kids involved is a great idea.

I had no idea she was either. It was deflating to realize that I didn't come up with the imagery on my own but then again, it's a really striking piece, so it's all good.

Congrats on these .. Mr Rock and the Mummy are the favs for me, but all are def hangable.

Wish I had ANY sort of art talent, but it seems mine is just to admire others who do.

Haven't really picked up the brushes in a while, I tried my hand at likeness but the process broke my brain.

The kids wanted to paint yesterday and I grabbed the first thing I could find.

Had a lot of fun with this, glad they talked me into it.

Sweet - this has always interested me.
Someday I'll give it a try.

by all means, do it. It costs very little (especially if you paint heads already) and is enormously rewarding.

Painted with the kids today again, tried hard to paint what I imagine the Tomland Dracula card art might look like based on the mummy art. I'm not sure I succeeded but it was a fun couple of hours.

Hey, I read through this whole thread and I love your paintings! Great work! I particularly like this one.
