After two long years, my dream is finally realized!

What began as a simple sketch, and my lifelong dream to see Dick Durock as Swamp Thing from the original 1982 film realized in sculpture has come to fruition at long last!
I started with a vision of what I wanted to see, then sought out a sculptor, who began work in November of 2018.
Under my careful (and I'm certain annoying) direction and critiques (he was really good at putting up with me) a year later he came through with flying colors,
capturing every subtle nuance of the actor and prosthetics. I decided late in the project to alter the base before it was sculpted, removing the tree branches and adding cypress stumps instead.
The sculptor came up with the fantastic idea of adding the snake to give some life to the swamp setting.
Even the nameplate was a challenge, digitally sculpted to match the classic logo exactly as it appears on the film's poster.
Then once the final sculpture was completed, it was sent to a Hollywood mold maker for molding and casting.

Measuring a whopping 18 inches tall, the Swamp Thing Big Head is a tribute to one of my favorite films of all time, and a long overdue tribute to the late Dick Durock.

Now begins my final contribution, to bring the piece to life with paint! I spent hours studying reference materials just coming up with the correct base color of green to match the actual suit.
I'm really excited to be able to share this with all my friends here at the Mego Museum...Time to kick back, crank up "Born on the Bayou", and start slinging some paint!

Never saw Swamp Thing, but looking at the pics, your sculptor definitely nailed it and with your mad skills this will be one sick display.
You are transparent; I see many things... I see plans within plans.

              That’s pretty friggin awesome!!!!!

Are you going strictly one medium?

I think going with mixed media would look so awesome. Adding something like faux terrain moss to the sculpture would be awesome...

              What a beauty!

That's an incredible project you set out to do and hats off to you for getting it to this stage, truly stunning! Can't wait to see this finished off and I'm sure that it will look fantastic once completed as the sculpt is out of sight!!

Just strictly paint Hector. That other stuff sounds good in theory but doesn't hold up well over time and makes dusting problematic.

Question: …. Is this completed bust the same exactly clay lump your friend sculpted ?

I've always wondered if the completed clay sculpt had to be cast into something more stable and permanent

BTW, looks fantastic !!! … Like it should be in a museum
