    Star Trek suggestion

    Hi,
Not sure if this has been brought up by anyone in the past (if so, I apologize for rehashing an old subject) but considering Mego has made two Stan Lee figures wouldn't it be cool if they made figures of other well-known franchise or character creators? The one that comes to mind immediately for me would the "The Great Bird of the Galaxy" himself, Gene Rodenberry. I think it would be nice to have a Gene Rodenberry figure to include in our Star Trek collections. What does everyone think?

I'd want one. I don't think many other people would, though.

Was it his estate or someone else’s that wouldn’t allow figures of him? Am I confusing things and that was Rod Serling? Or was it both of them?

I'm not sure what the legal ramifications are, but too bad if this is indeed the case. Both he and Rod Serling would be great figures. Who are some other creators or behind-the-scenes people who you feel are either well known enough or influential enough to deserve figures? Hypothetically speaking, of course, and not taking into consideration which ones would be big sellers. Rodenberry, Serling and Alfred Hitchcock would be phenomenal... maybe even a Jack Kirby to go with our Stan Lee.

I have seen pics of a 6 inch Roddenberry and Kirk two pack prototype that Palisades Toys planned to release several years ago. For some reason it never was released.

Releasing a Captain Robert April figure that looks like Gene would be a good way to get a figure of him, and increase the Starfleet ranks. He's often used as the "face" of April (who only appeared on screen on the animated series) in official Star Trek books.

Serling's estate famously would not release his likeness for toys, but I've not heard that about Roddenberry.

If you can track it down, James Brady did a great sculpt of a him though (MegoCon 2004 exclusive).

I like Earth 2 Chris' suggestion for using Rodenberry's likeness as Capt. Robert April.

Me, too. I'd get Roddenberry as Capt April.

It would also be great if they were to make a two-pack of Spock's parents from 'Journey to Babel'.

                      Yeah, that would be awesome.

Given how much of a commercial opportunist Roddenberry was, I can't imagine his estate would turn down any chance to make a few $ off his likeness. I think it's more a matter of would enough collectors want a figure of Roddenberry, but that's just a guess.

On a related note, since Carol Serling passed last year, maybe Rod's heirs will be less resistant to the idea of a figure or statue. That would sell, as he was a much more visible part of each TZ than Roddenberry was in Trek. The lack of Serling was the only real downside of the BBP figures from a few years ago.

^Serling makes so much more sense as a figure. He was front and center doing intros for TZ and would be recognizable.

Roddenberry is just a fat old guy in a sweater.

Star Wars released a George Lucas as X-Wing Pilot *and* a George Lucas in Stormtrooper armor. Apparently Hot Toys made an unlicensed "Director" figure as well.

I know that Star Wars has a much bigger collector base, but if you did a Gene Roddenberry as Captain April... maybe released as a convention exclusive... I think it would sell.

^I’d buy one just so he could make all my Next Generation figures miserable.
