    The Marvel Family

The Big Red Cheese, the original Captain Marvel. Mattel retro head repianted to have a classic Mego skin tone. Costume is made basically like the previous Lt. Marvel. The black dashes down the front of the boots is printed out from Photoshop and cut into a narrow strip, then glued on.

The head really suffers from the anemic skin tone it originally had. The detail is much better and sharper than it appears to be on first sight. It's a solid sculpt.

I know what you--I used tan dye to tint some of my Mattel heads and it really brought out the detail.

Ah, good, that tells me the dye works on the Mattel heads. I'd definitely rather dye than paint the heads; keeping the paint smooth is a big challenge.

Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel, Jr. Mary uses a modified Dorothy head and standard Mego female body. Junior uses an old Mego Lion Rock 6" body and a modded Aqualad head from Classic TV Toys. Almost forgot the decos on his cape when I went to take pics.

Black Adam and Uncle Dudley. Adam uses the recent Mego head with the hair built up; he has often been portrayed with a long head, so this bulking up worked and made the new noggin scalable with the classic stuff (tried the same with the Big Red Cheese, but the new figure's face is just too small). The rest of his costume is made the same as the Marvels. Uncle Dudley uses the Wizard of Oz' head with re-sculpted hair. I was trying to give the feel that this isn't a "real" Marvel family costume conjured by the magic word. Dudley's usually portrayed with his cape just having a rope tie in the front, and some early appearances had the costume rather ill fitting, which conveys what I wanted. He uses a standard Mego fat body.

Nicely done. There are those who say Mary was modeled on Judy Garland (which definitely works but isn't as clearly confirmed as the Fred MacMurray story), so I've always thought a Dorothy would work well. For that matter, the Wizard for Uncle Dudley works well, as you show.
