Sad RIP Ben Chapman

Ben Chapman, known to his fans as the Creature from the Black Lagoon, has died. He had been a fixture at conventions for years and was widely beloved by monster fans. Ben was one of two actors who wore the famous Creature suit in the original film in 1954. Ricou Browning was the actor who portrayed the Creature in his underwater sequences, while Ben was the Creature in all of his out-of-water sequences. I deeply regret that I never got to meet Mr. Chapman. There's been a real outpouring of grief at his loss all over the various monster-related boards today.

A true gentleman in every sense of the word. I had the pleasure of spending the weekend with him a few years back when he attended our Wonderfest convention. He will be sorely missed. Here is the link to his home page.

I met him, Ricco and Julie Adams at WF several years ago. Sweethearts, just sweethearts. A very sad day.

Ah man that's too bad. He was always very friendly at cons and I hate to loose one of the last classic monsters.
