Spencer Tracy was a much better actor...but that doesn't mean he was cooler than the Duke...

If you're gonna call me out on bringing up his acting style/ability in a thread that's about "if he was one of the coolest actors", then you should also call out everyone in this thread that has used it to say whether or not they liked him or used it to say what their favorite Wayne flicks are... Ya can't say I'm the only one doing a 180, the bulk of the rest are too ... I don't care that you did it, but don't just point at me as altering the thread a little bit when others are just as "guilty"
And now to bring it back to it's origins of "Was John Wayne one of the coolest actor ever", I'd say no... Clint Eastwood gets my vote on that one, with Charles Bronson a close second...
In any case, it's too bad that the "Old Hollywood" is retiring/dying off... I hate to think that someday the whiny hoodie wearing actors of today might be considered "legends"...

The thing is he was a great western actor the unfortunate thing is he did over 250 films and people only ever remember about twelve of them...LOL
I'm just saying is all.
some of my favs include;
Rio Bravo
El dorado
The Cowboys
True Grit
Rooster Cogburn
The Shootist
There are more but these ones I never get tired off.
It's truly a shame that Wayne was not in the magnificent seven and even a greater shame him and Eastwood never did a western together.“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

A lot of people don't know the role of the Wacko Kid in Blazing Saddles was written for John Wayne to play --- and Wayne wanted to do it saying it looks like fun, but his manager talked him out of it, claiming it would damage Wayne's reputation as a wholesome hero.
It's a shame it never came to be.
Just imagine if Wayne did it.
It would have been fantastic.Comment
