Tim Burton Wants a Happy Superhero

    https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/advi...053113709.html

I have to agree that filmgoers deserve a fun, happy superhero. It's a bit odd to single out Marvel, since the DC superhero films are more glum on the whole.

I do see Marvel taking the nose dive into more "serious" and "adult" territory, ever since Winter Soldier, and it's really not my bag. Quite honestly, I would love to see Burton return to the genre and helm something lighthearted.

Funny, I just re-watched the '89 Batman on the weekend, it's amazing how much comedy is in it. Almost too much for my tastes but it works.

Personally, I don't like "Batman Returns" because i find it way too dark and moody, which seems to be what Burton is complaining about....

It's funny that he also mentions Marvel because I find the Avengers works so well because it's this great balance of serious and fun. I loved Winter Soldier but it won't get the repeat viewings that Avengers did.

And yeah, Man of Steel is easily the most brooding Superhero movie of this decade.

Batman Returns is comedic, but very, VERY dark comedy. It really is a bit of an opera in its over the top gothic splendor. Somehow its thin storyline makes even less sense that Batman 89. But he's right... tastes have changed so much since then, that those films, which were considered darkly real at the time, are now by comparison light fantasy.

I think my personal problem with it is, it's less of a Batman movie and more of a Tim Burton movie. I mean he's really gothing it up in that one, even has Siouxsie and the Banshees on the soundtrack. I did love the heck out of the score though.

Billy Zane's performance as the Phantom seemed refreshing during that period.

Then Burton ought to do one, he's still got enough pull to get one of these movies. Would love to see him on the Doom Patrol or Metamorpho. Just keep his usual casting of Depp away.

I thought some of the funniest moments in The Avengers were with The Hulk. I'll like to see him given a chance in film again with a lighter tone.

I always felt that DC took itself too seriously, not Marvel.
X-Men First Class and Guardians had enough humor in them.

Someone should make a Blankman custom, that would be cool.

I liked Jon Polito's The Suit in it.

I definitely think Guardians had lots of comedy. Not my Drax and Gamora but good movie. The Sam Raimi Spidey films had good humour in them. I think the upcoming Shazam movie will be lighter for DC. Geoff Johns has interest in a Metal Men movie which I would love to see but hope that wouldn't be a dark film.

I thought the first FF movie had some good comedy in it.

Love it or hate it Blankman IS the best Superhero film since Superman The Movie.

Try watching it with the ha-ha comedy removed.

It's the best Batman movie ever made
