Kong: Skull Island - coming 2017

Here comes another take on the Kongster. This time by Legendary Pictures who brought us Godzilla. The star is Tom Hiddleston (aka Loki).

Legendary and Universal's film stars Tom Hiddleston, while the Great Wall film will make the English-language debut of director Zhang Yimou

Hiddleston doesn't look like Kong at all...

Come to think of it, neither did Naomi Watts, Jessica Lange, or Fay Wray.

          Agreed.
That was the first moment I felt Jackson went off the rails.
Totally over the top, with T-Rexs swinging on vines (huh?), and some really bad CG as well (especially with the stampede scene).
I liked Naomi Watts and Adrian Brody, but loathed Jack Black.

Gender reversal. Now that would be interesting. Kong falls in love with the man, and the female lead needs to rescue him...

I agree... I liked KK2005 myself, but Jack Black really did/does almost ruin the film... He must have had some pretty good dirt on Peter Jackson to have wormed his way into that film...

I enjoy the King Kong story, but another remake of a remake of a remake of an original, I can wait till 2017.

I hope they dial it back to what made the original so effective: the unique design of Kong (not just a giant gorilla), and smaller scale action (that still feels spectacular) like Kong versus one T-Rex.

I'm not really sure what they can do with a prequel since the gist of the main story is about beauty and the beast. Sure it would be great to see some of the history on Kong, but ultimately it's anti-climatic to his fate that follows.

If it's a prequel, they could show an expedition to the island that never returned. Show us where Kong got a taste for the ladies...

Either that, or show a young Kong, still living with his parents, and getting in all kinds of trouble....

Maybe we'll discover before Kong island, it was the island of misfit monkeys? I just don't see anything engaging enough to warrant a prequel except to put on a big CGI-fest, which Jackson did to epic/yawning scope with his remake. There's only so many monster moments you can have before you look down at your watch and say, "What's the point?" That Godzilla film was a perfect example. The biggest over-hyped bore-fest of 2014. This appears to be aiming for that same audience.

In that case you'd love it if Godzilla used to live on that island as well...
First they were friends, then they wanted the same girl, then they became worst enemies!
