Cumberbatch as the Master of Mystic arts

Deadline reports that Marvel has found its Doctor Strange: "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch. The actor was said to be up for the role after rumored talks with Joaquin Phoenix reportedly fell through.

I actually think it's a better choice than Phoenix.

Not confirmed, in talks with Marvel Studios. This could mean anything. Would be my 1st choice though.

I had heard sometime around his Trek 2 announcement that Marvel was after him, but they wanted to sign him before Trek 2 so he couldn't command a higher pricetag if it exploded at the box office. But Cumber's group waited it out thinking a boon was coming. So while the in-demand happened, he's not getting the premium expected. When Phoenix fell through, they started again but now Marvel had the possible Oscar nomination for Cumber in Imitation Game to deal with so they upped the offer. Keanu jockeyed ahead with his latest movie opening much stronger than expected, so Cumber's group gave in just enough to meet Marvel.

He's been the choice for Strange, and Namor, for a few years. Marvel has no hand in Namor, so that was a non-starter.

Great casting, and he's a damn good actor.

Phoenix is also a solid actor, but I think he would've been miscast as Dr Strange.

Cumberbatch will likely do a fine job as Stephen Strange, but I personally still would've liked to have seen Doctor Strange portrayed by either David Tennant or Tom Mison (from SLEEPY HOLLOW)...
