    FTC New Gloves and Boots

So FTC recently released the new gloves and boots that attach as hands or feet (the new realistic style used on the 1966 Batman figs) and I just got a few sets in the mail.

They are not direct replacements, as FTC include separate adapters for the joints. But even these are too narrow to fit direct on a Mego or Doc replacement body. So I suppose I need to dremel some of the plastic off the leg joint. Anyone done this? I am always nervous before attempting anything that will permanently alter a body.

I think they are designed to fit on the FTC body. The gloves fit fine, the boots required a bit of work.

My suggestion is, rather than using a dremel, see if you can use a file or even an emery board to sand the surfaces down. Your dealing with a fairly small area, and you can get things re-shaped and thinned out with a good degree of control that way. It takes longer, but patience sometimes pays off.

I bought an FTC body with the new boots and gloves to try and while the boots and gloves look amazing, the body itself had all the usual issues that everyone is complaining about...I decided to swap the gloves and boots onto the much sturdier Big Bang Pow swivel biceps body that Dr. Mego is currently selling for only five bucks.

It was easy enough to pop off the hands of the BBP body and tap in the FTC pins but, as you can see in the pic below, the BBP body's ankle joint is a lot wider than FTC's (BBP is on the left, FTC on the right)...I used a Dremel with a half inch grinding wheel and was able to fix the problems in a minute or two...you'll need to remove about half the width of the tab and about a millimeter off of the bottom in order for the ankle joint to fit properly...The tiny FTC pins were a pain to get back into the small holes of the boot adapter so I replaced them with small sections from the shaft of a broken drill bit which I cut roughly 2mm longer than the width of the adapter...once you slide the boot on the figure, the pin won't be able to slide out.

I just received my order of Type S glow bodies and they'll need the same modifications to the ankle joint that the Bif Bang Pow swivel bicep bodies need in order to fit the FTC boots...
Though the Type S body does have a greater range of motion, it doesn't quite fill out a superhero jumpsuit as nicely as the BBP does...From a quality of construction and materials standpoint, I would say the the Type S and the BBP bodies are about equal...
If you just display your figures in the box or on the card, you'd be better off going with BBP because they're half the price and Dr. Mego actually has them in stock.
