The kid playing Barry is likeable, and the rest of the cast is too.

This was a big part of the enjoyment for me. I found all of Barry' supporting cast likeable. Nice to see Mr. Shipp making an appearance as Barry' dad. Abracadabra, and Chronos are great guesses for the Doc. Nice.

Just watched the pilot...liked it quite a bit. Figured I would since I really enjoyed the intro on last season's Arrow. These two shows are very complimentary to each other.

Great time for genre geeks to be alive...so much good stuff happening...so little time to take it all in.

I'm not familiar with the new 52 story lines, but I'm assuming the yellow flash in the murder sequence of Barry Allen's mom is probably Professor Zoom (aka Reverse Flash)? Since there is a time travel component to this and since RF is essentially Flash's Joker, I tend to think the "handicapped" doctor will assume that role. He was already displaying jealous tendencies and an unusual obsession with Barry's abilities. That plays to the characteristics of Professor Zoom.

I noticed one structural similarity to Smallville in the origin setup. Whereas Smallville had the "meteor" as the event which spawn so many of Supe's future villains, it seems this pilot is using the disaster/storm to induce a similar "mutation" in Barry Allen's world. I liked what I saw though. I'm was very pleased to see Flash in his classic suit when the professor read that future headline regarding the Crisis storyline. Hopefully that means somewhere along the way, the suit will evolve into the classic comic interpretation. I think it would definitely work. The effects were done well and the cast are all likable. I'm also glad this series is not ashamed to start showing costumes early. Nice to see a series finally embrace it's roots and not over-conceptualize to tone down it's comic origins. This looks like a fun ride.

The cop Iris is dating is Edward Thawne. The original Professor Zoom/Reverse Flash was named Eobard Thawne. The second Reverse Flash, known as Zoom, was a cop by the name of Hunter Zolomon, who had been Wally's friend, but became bitter and twisted after he was crippled. Dr. Wells being in a wheelchair may be a nod to the second Zoom, and Thawne may be a red herring, OR Thawne may be Zoom. Lots of ways to go with it. Good set-up.
