What do you use to hold your custom heads while you paint them?

Simple question, but I've tried several ways w/o success.

    Thanks,

    I use bodies.

I never start painted a head until it's on the body. I'd be too nervous of ruining the paint job trying to get it on the body after I paint it.

    Interesting question.

Through some Gilligan-esque bungling I unstrung a Doc Mego Buff Body and because I lack the tooling to restring it I use the chest as my head painting mannequin.

The screws in the back make it a snap to swap heads in and out.

I drill a small hole in the neck plug and insert the handle of one of my small paint brushes. Works like a charm.

If its a resin head, I paint them on the body. Mego or FTC i use a pencil and stick the eraser in the neck plug.

                  The Force.
It runs strong in my family and is very useful for all kinds of chores.

Seriously, I usually drill custom heads.
I have a wooden board with big screws and nails sticking out, and I'll just plug the head on one of those, so both hands are free.
The board can swivel (like a sculpter has), so I can turn the whole thing in any direction required.

Sometimes, it looks like someone massacred a whole toy village and left their heads on stakes...

I've been using paper/plastic bag clips, and metal spring clamps.

I use chopsticks and kabob sticks to sculpt heads on. There are so many ways to keep them secure while drying. Tall glasses, glass soda bottles, book shelves and anyplace you can find to secure it.

Here is a tip: take any plastic soda bottle and fill the bottom with sand, to provide balance weight.
