    Planet of Stuff

Southern Ontario is truly blessed with a great deal of terrific vintage toy shops. This weekend's road trip was to Peterborough.

Weird Magazine looks so great! I've never seen one..

I'd frame that and put it on the wall.
My wife would get it off the wall again...

Heh, I was along for the road trip and bought that very magazine. My uncle gave me that same issue when I was seven years old and I read it to pieces, it warped my mind! So even though this copy was rather worse for wear, hell it was only eight bucks and I could recapture a little bit of my childhood. "Weird" was a bottom of the barrel horror magazine from the 60's and 70's with terrible stories but incredibly gory and misogynistic covers, the likes of which you would never see on news stands today in this PC world, yet kids could buy them!

This was a great store, it had a little bit of everything. I'd definitely like to go back some day.

On our itinerary was Things from My Mom's Basement, also in Peterborough. Luckily we ran into the proprietor at the Lakefield flea market and he told us the store was closed.

Here is some of the stuff he had at his booth...

I haven't gotten out of there for under $25 ever. Fun store, not really filled with expensive high brow items, more affordable and kitschy ones, which is actually quite dangerous.

Yeah, affordable and kitschy is good description for the place. It was so easy to go "I'll take this...and one of these....oh, and one of these too", it had a lot of very addictive but inexpensive items. I spent nearly forty bucks there without even trying.
