Thanks Bob...My exact point, which I maybe didn't express clearly, was about losing the younger & female fans Tennant & Smith brought to the show. I don't recall there being this much pre show push for the other Doctor changes since the revival. Of course, the show is that much bigger than it ever was.
I'm looking forward to an older more mysterious and maybe less friendly Doctor myself, with more emphasis on the Doctor and less on the companions. One of the worst aspects of the Smith era was it seemed like it was the Amy Pond Show with the Doctor as a companion to her. My gosh, she even took over the opening. So I'm not against Capaldi, just noting it seems the BBC is advertising him hard.

It always takes some time for a Doctor to grow on me. Those first episodes are often not always the best ones, either.
Give it 5-6 eps, then we'll know more.
The first McCoy eps weren't very good, but he became a great Doctor in the end.

As it is now, before we've even seen an episode, I have no opinion except that I like the fact it's an older Doctor, and he has the right look.

I do think it's a big risk to alienate part of their teenage audience by not using a "pretty boy", but good for them.

I think you guys are not giving the female audience enough credit.

Problem with TV today if a show isn't a hit it's soon gone.

              The BBC is kinda fickle

Don't forget they're the ones who canceled Dr Who and then leased it out the an American company

Yeah, but we got a great Doctor out of it.

And, for the record, this first episode is very entertaining. It took 40 minutes to get going, but they have won me over. Another half hour to go...

How extremely interesting that they ended the episode by directly and specifically addressing all the above complaints and doubts. Well played, BBC. Very well played indeed.

I miss Smith, but I think i'll adjust to Capaldi pretty quickly and easily.

I didn't understand the end --- was the girl the TARDIS ?

I have lots of questions (as we all do) but I enjoyed it. Quite a few surprises I didn't see coming in that one!

That was a very strong episode. I've been pretty neutral on Clara, but she really did the show some justice with that one. Capaldi was great. The story was strong enough given it was a character centered regeneration plot. Overall, bravo to everyone!

Did they ever figure out who put the ad in the paper? If they did, I missed it.
