I almost look at this episode as the Doctor is trying to find something to do. It reminds me of a Batman story Harlan Ellison wrote once where there was no crime in Gotham one night.

Getting no clear answer is a nice diversion to "Doctor fights monster, saves universe, repeat". I'm a fan of that but this one was really enjoyed on my end.

Next week's is a lot of fun.

I have to admit, i'm slowly becoming part of the "can't sit still, show me action" generation.

I think that's why I just couldn't get into this episode

I'm not really getting onto Capaldi but the story was outstanding. It did seem to borrow some elements from past stories, (The set up in Midnight, the invisibility of The Silence), but played on our primal fears. Also Clara being in the barn at the end fit well in many ways with her place in the Who Universe as explained in The Name of the Doctor.

I kinda feel the same way.

So far (imo) Capaldi is as likeable as Colin Baker.

Matt Smith kinda spoiled us as the Doctor you'd love to have a beer with.

For Capaldi i'm not sure --- if anything he does harken back to a time when the Doctor was very alien.

For me, liking the stories but i'm not sure I like Capaldi.

For one thing, I wish he would speak American-English friendly -- aka ALL other Doctors before him

He needs to stop mumbling and just speak the lines

So did anyone catch my fleeting appearance in Time Heist tonight. If you blinked, you probably would have missed it, but still a very cool scene to do though.

                      Ooh, tonight's was a goodie!!!
I love me those time paradox stories, plus this one was all wrapped up in a "heist caper".
The Doctor made some friends, told a joke, and the villains weren't even villainous ( well, except for the brain thing).
Is it me or is The Doctor rather like Gregory House now when ' on thè case'? Nasty and personally detached, only the mission is important?

I don't think Capaldi is supposed to be liked ("Am I a good man, Clara?").
Matt Smith was the Doctor who saved and loved Humanity.
Capaldi will save Humanity, then give it a good talking-to and slap it around a bit. Maybe even do all that before saving it.

I think it was a brilliant change of pace for the series.

Agreed. I am enjoying the change the new season has to offer. I grow tired of properties that just offer same-old same-old.
