    Dapol Doctor Who

Anybody Collect these? I'd call 'em 'Vintage', but they were being made as recently as 2002. Not a lot of innovation in the line through the years. Really they seemed more interested in variations of existing characters/molds than creating new characters or sets, or even updating their mistakes (a five paneled console, green K9, two armed Davros).

Still, before Character Options came along, it was the best we had.

Some of the figures have become quite valuable on the aftermarket.

    Anybody got any?

I have about a dozen of them on card. I ordered them in the late nineties straight from Dapol.com. They were cheap, at around $6 each including shipping from UK to USA. I really like their vintage, low tech style.

I first became aware of them through the Trekker catalog. I never had any myself. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to expand the line to include many previous Doctors, monsters, or companions.

I've got a few. They always did seem almost quaint and old-school compared to the innovations in sculpt, articulation and paint apps compared to most toy lines in the nineties. fo course now they fit right in with ReAction and such.

That's one of the reasons I'm into them. That and Doctor Who toys are moving back to 3.75" scale.

Shame BBP! Lost the license for 8", the ReMegos were cool, and the Denys Fisher reissues would have been great!

These figures are extremely brittle. The heads, arms and legs are not PVC like most figures of this era and scale. They're made from the same ABS as the body.

As Dapol is primarily a railroad toy manufacturer, think of the plastic used in toy trains and you'll have an idea. Definitely not as durable as what Kenner was doing at the time.

I've got a few loose and a couple of signed carded figures and Tardises. Most will be up for sale soon.

The thing that bugged me was the 4th doctor without a scarf.

At the time they lost their licence, they were starting to do range of more accurate but non articulated figures, I have the Troughton and moonbase Cyberman figures. There were prototypes of the Hartnell Doctor and Web Yeti on ebay a few years ago.

I still want a Dalek, Davros, and the Seventh Doctor.

I scored a huge, used, Dalek set on eBay a few years back. Tho they were all dusty and need significant cleaning.

I've got a few myself, ordered them from some toy company back in the late 90's. It was a gift set that included the doctor, Tardis, and a few others. I then ordered a few of the villains that were single carded but not part of the set just so I could have them.

They are in danger of breaking as some of the joints are stiff but I too like them for their vintage feel. I also had to re-solder (sp?) the wiring for the TARDIS blinking light when I first got it, thankfully I knew how. My favorite would probably be Davros as his likeness seems to be the closest and most detailed.

I remember collecting all the Dalek variations, plus Davros, a Cyberman, an Ice Warrior and the green K-9.
