Problem uploading an animated GIF

I created a cool little animated avatar, but could not, no matter what, get the board to accept it. Even though the filesize was well under the 34K limit, I kept getting a "Filesize exceeds" message.

Are animated GIFs allowed as avatars or is there something wrong with my file? (I know it works properly in a browser)
