picked up a short plug Superman head from a seller on ebay. arrived today & first thing I noticed was no copyright on the back of the neck. did a little search & initially found that Superman heads with no copyright are legit, so I popped it on a T2 body. then saw a post saying that said such things are probably repro. Was looking at repro heads online and most look noticeably different. Anyone familiar with Superman heads with no copyright?

Look here... Looks like it could be a Doc Mego head...

this site says doc mego heads are stamped with a dm on the back of the neck. is that not always true? the paint and general appearance looks like genuine mego. will get a magnifying glass and check, looks like the copyright info might have been there but removed prior to casting?Comment

I've actually seen this on a number of heads, that the info on the back doesn't show up well, almost as if they weren't molded properly.
To me the head looks too perfect to be a copy, or reproduction. I haven't been faced with a single repro head that was difficult to tell apart from an original, even at first glance.Comment

I know Mego used an unmarked Superman head for Dinah-mite's friend Don, but if you're seeing some sort of print remnant on the back of the neck I also tend to believe this is a Mego head. I also agree with HapSlash's assessment that it was probably pulled from the mold before copyright info got properly imprinted. I too have notice these, especially on '79 and later releases of Superman Megos.
The only repro head printed without info that I'm aware of is from Classic TV Toys. Those heads are not as 'sharp' looking, detail-wise, as the one you're showing."...You can capture the Klingon & bring him back to the Enterprise!"Comment

Thanks. The last Superman I owned was a boxed stirrup suit version, which I sold a decade ago to raise funds for an engagement ring (mistake.) I haven't owned a loose Superman since I was a child. The head looked right to me, but was surprised by the lack of copyright. I'm returning to the hobby after a long break and am a little concerned about the new versions of mego-like figures that are being released these days. As was pointed out earlier, most repro and modern incarnations seem easily identifiable.Comment
