DST Spider-Man Limited Edition Collector Set

    Spider-Man Limited Edition Collector Set!

    From http://marvel.com/news/toys/2014/4/2...er-man_figures:

It seems like retro-style 8" figures have become all the rage lately, but one license has been noticeably absent: the Marvel Comics characters from Mego's World's Greatest Super-Heroes line. These classic 8-inch, cloth-costume action figures were very popular back in the 1970s, and are as beloved today as they are hard to find mint-in-box. Luckily, Diamond Select Toys has announced a line of deluxe Marvel Retro 8" figures that will reproduce (and add to) those classic figures, starting with the Amazing Spider-Man!

Only available as part of as special collector set, the Amazing Spider-Man will come as he first appeared in 1973, in his original "circle suit" costume and inside a reproduction window box. Additionally, the set contains all-new interchangeable heads, hands, outfits and accessories so that you can swap out parts on the classic figure to turn him into his alter ego: Daily Bugle photographer Peter Parker, or even a modern comic version of the wall-crawler!

Designed and sculpted for DST by the retro-toy craftsmen at EMCE Toys, the set will also contain a miniature booklet outlining the history of Spider-Man. Future sets in the line will turn the spotlight on Captain America, Iron Man and Wolverine, who was never included in the original 1970's line. Each set will be limited to just 3,000 pieces, and retail for approximately $80.

Pre-orders will open for Spider-Man shortly, and he will be on store shelves (although probably not for long) in late 2014! And for more from Diamond Select, visit their website.

I will get this, but at $80 per figure, I can only afford one. Does this mean we are only getting 4 figures and each figure will come with three outfits and cost $80 each?

It really does seem to have a Captain Action vibe to it. Hope we can get blank bodies so we could display all 3. The hand-pegs look similar to other 8" bodies and hopefully the heads are connected in a compatible way.

I would have preferred 3 separate figures so I wouldn't have to hunt down extra bodies. But on the positive side the figures look great and no more giant heads!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The figure looks great and I love the new costumes and heads. I think the price is too high. Happy to see them being made.

I'm digging the Peter Parker figure, but the 70's Tv spidey looks uninspired for me. 80 bucks sheeeesh. I can hunt a real mego loose spidey for less; and no the circle suit repro doesn't do it for me...but hey better than nothing. I look forward to it and hope it leads to other Marvel figures.

Each set will be $80, but we plan to do more than four sets. Those were just examples of popular characters. The price is what we had to charge to pack in all that stuff; I think it's fair considering what you'd pay for a single, relatively fragile body with one threadbare suit and (often) no accessories. Not sure we'll offer blank bodies, but I'm sure someone around here does.
