    "New" Orangutan headsculpt

Hi guys - been a while. This may be old news to customizers here, but here's an odd find I wanted to share:

If anyone is looking to expand their Ape Council, the head on this orangutan is from the Hasbro "Signature Series" Dr. Zaius from about over 15 years ago or so. These were 6.5" figures that were kind of clunky, and the paint job was really slapped on in a weird way. But once I got the paint off, there's actually a pretty good headsculpt hiding under there. And it's cast in a color that works as ape fleshtone, so I just needed to paint the hair and eyes and teeth. I put it on a Mego body and the proportion was right. I don't think he looks too much like Maurice Evans' Zaius - maybe more like Virgil from "Battle" - but you can never have too many background council members around. Anyway - they're out there and pretty cheap as headsculpts go, and I was able to pick one up off of ebay for less than ten dollars.

Also, that cane came with him (I lengthened it a bit) and it comes with a sort of soft plastic cloak vest that I am going to use the hieroglyphics from on another Zaius costume (his longer coat outfit, not his "cruisin' Forbidden Zone beach" outfit I'm showing here).

    Yours,
    Judson's Garage

                Yes!, I support this activity.

Having received a few of the absolutely terrible 1999 Hasbro SS figs MIB within a big lot a few months back, I finally committed the few decent bits to an old school vs. new school mash-up. Namely their heads!... sans a 'lil reworking on the accessories, everything else went promptly into the trash. I feel so much better now. ;)

Trappy - I think the Taylor head may be too small to work. But he comes with a pretty cool ANSA backpack and a pistol that I was able to use on a different figure, which you can see in this old pic:

I haven't tried the Cornelius - but looks like it has promise under all that paint. The gorilla soldier works okay too, as you can see from Confessional's picture he's tilted looking upward. I didn't have to repaint that one either.

I'd love to see some close up pics of that Ursus peaking in the background.

Here y'go - I've actually got him dressed as Urko from the TV show for now until I can make some proper Ursus armor for him
