Awesome find at old used book store!

Just got back from wandering around a huge three story old used book store in Kinsman, Ohio.

I found a mint condition 1978 Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog for $30.

Unbelievable full color pages of Star Wars, Six Million Dollar Man, Micronauts, WGSH, Stretch Armstrong, Pulsar, Gabriel Lone Ranger...

Beautiful shots of the Wayne Foundation and SMDM Venus Probe. Just amazing to see the original prices of this stuff.

There's a website somewhere dedicated to department store christmas catalogs. I forgot to bookmark it, but I think it is call Wishbook. They scanned all the pages of these catalogues. I think they cover the 1950's up through the 80's. My only squabble is that it can be sort of a pain navigating through the pages to get to the toy section.

Oh, cool, what a neat find.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Old catalogs are great! I have 1971 Spiegel's Xmas, 1973 JCPenney Xmas, 1974 Montgomery Wards Xmas, and 1976 Avon Christmas.

There is another site of Wishbooks on Flickr, which is a little easier to navigate, (at least to me) that has all sorts of fun catalog pages to look through:

"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Great find. Used to have a couple from Consumer's Distributing and Service Merchandise in the early 80's but they vanished.

Before eBay I walked into a junk shop which was an old house. I just happened to ask if they had any old catalogs and boy did they! The guy moved some stuff to get into the cabinets in the kitchen and he just kept bringing out stacks of them. I bought all of the Christmas catalogs. Wards, Penney's, Sears, Aldens, Spiegels, etc... Some I hadn't even heard of before. Early 60's to the late 70's. I kept a few of them and put ads in Toy Shop and sold all of the rest and made a killing on them.
