Do Mego zombie heads continue to degrade?

I was wondering: do vintage Mego "grey" heads continue to lose their skin tone, even after so many years?
I just bought a figure and the head has some slight greying at the neck.
Could it eventually go all grey?
Or has the process stopped already?

I bought an original Mego WGSH Shazam (Loose but Mint) and had graying at his neck plug. Once the head was plugged into the body and then outfitted, you would never tell it has zombie syndrome at neck plug. Its been like that since I started with the hobby back in 1997 and the graying had not advanced a bit...

I heard they actually eat the healthy mego figures!

I have an Invisible Girl with a zombie head, have had her for over 10 years, it hasn't got any worse since the day I got her. Even with a zombie head she's pretty

              No they don't.

The greying process didn't occur gradually for the main victims like I-Woman, they were zombified on card and in stores in the early 80's. So if it was slow degradation most of those heads would be grey-black after forty years.

And zombie heads aren't contagious and turn other heads zombie. I keep a few zombie/alive heads in a small tub for a few years now. Leeching hasn't happened yet.

My Zombie Reed Richards hasn't gotten any worse. And the tool dip trick worked...briefly. He quickly returned to his previous zombie-ness. It's only a temporary fix, at least by my estimation.

I think the zombie effect also depends on humidity. Some of the zombie heads tend to get a little 'tacky' or sticky. As for degreying...again, the humidity has an affect when doing the plasti-dip process. The dryer the weather the better the take in the plasti dip process. I find it better to do plasti dip degreying during the winter months when it's a dry cold day. The heads to take better and the reversion takes a little longer.

Yes, it can still happen. I bought some 12" Black Hole figures about six years ago, a few of them had heads with little to almost no discoloration. I had them displayed in a room that is dark 80% of the time, and with no direct sunlight. Those heads have still managed to grey considerably during the last six years, to my dismay. So yes, the process can still be triggered even at this point. I have a set of 12" Star Trek figures with non-grey heads that I have kept stored in the dark for this reason. Every once and a while I take a look at them, and they are still fine, but they will be staying in the dark....

Hmmm. So some do and some don't.

Another zombie head related question... can you paint over them?

As you can squeeze them, I'd say no, not without the paint flaking off.

Yes, just don't squeeze them! I have painted over original heads before they take acrylic paint great, if you have a zombie head that has that "sweaty" look I'm sure you would have to degrease it somehow
