NEW MEGO DISCOVERY: X-Men Danger Room Playset 1976 WARNING PICTURE AND VIDEO HEAVY
I went to my mother's house for Christmas this year; the house I grew up in. I found a box of old Betamax video cassettes and an old player in her attic. I hooked it up to her TV and spent the day viewing old TV shows and commercials from my youth.
To my wonder I found this old commercial on one of those old videotapes:
I could not believe my eyes. I didn't remember Mego making any X-Men action figures, let alone a Danger Room playset. So, I went back to the attic and dug out all our old Christmas catalogs. The commercial stated "new for 1976" so I found the JCPenney Christmas catalog from 1976. I flipped the pages frantically looking for the action figure section and to my amazement I found myself looking at this:
It was old and faded, mind you, but I could make it out. It was Mego X-Men action figures AND a Danger Room playset.
How did I ever miss these?!?!?!
How did WE ever miss these?!?!?!
It was a dream!!!!
No, seriously, it was a dream.
A dream that I have had for some time and fortunately it has become a reality for me with the help from Mego Scott, Daremo and Jimsmegos.
Today I present to you my final custom 2nd Genesis X-Men action figures AND Danger Room playset.
To round out my set of action figures here is Nightcrawler. He is built on a Mego T2 body; head by Next2LastMohican; tail and vest from Famous Covers Nightcrawler; hands and feet from Marvel Legends Nightcrawler; suit and paints by me.
Banshee is built on a Mego T2 body; repro Virdon head painted by me; drmego.com repro Shazam boots; suit by me and sewn brilliantly by hawkmike.
A special "Thank You" to Mego Scott for helping me realize my vision of a Danger Room playset for them. As with my Iron Man Hall of Armor, I told Scott what I was thinking and he created it. I added the individual pictures of their enemies; the Doc Ock arms; the Sentinel hand; and the movable vice/wall.

Colossus takes on the vice...
and wins!!!!!

The videos were put together by Jimsmegos who, like Scott Adams, understood my vision and executed it brilliantly. Daremo not only produced the 1976 Christmas catalog page, but his voice can be heard as the narrator in the commercials along with the voices of my twelve-year-old son Connor Hough and his friend Rocko Iasillo. My son Kyle Hough was the hand model for most of the shots. And, a special thank you to Nvrmbrsdoom5, who gave me the idea of making the commercials look like they were found on an old video cassette in my mom's house.
This is my final post of 2013 and thus concludes my "Year of Completion".
