    Christmas Cowboys

Although they were far past prime, Western action figures were still very much a viable commodity in the 1970s. I'd even be willing to argue that Gabriel's seminal Lone Ranger line may be one of the top ten action figure lines of the 1970s.

That's the stuff kids dreamed of waking up to Christmas morning. Heck , I would flip if it was under the tree this year for me

Lone Ranger was of course way before my time, but something about him has always captivated me.

For Christmas one year, my grandparents gave me the Lone Ranger & Silver, and Tonto & Scout gift sets when they were re-released in conjunction with the 80s movie. I loved those things, and still have the horses. I've replaced the Ranger and Tonto, as they didn't survive childhood. I only wish they had the other items still available for them at that time.

Thanks for posting this. I had a few Johnny West figs. They were great, so many accessories. I didn't remember the quick draw ones. I had that chuckwagon set. I never would have remembered that without this post. I wish I still had my Lone Ranger stuff. That stuff was very cool. I never had that playset but it looks like it would be a nice backdrop for a lot of western themed figs.

For Christmas one year, I got the large Tonto (I already had LR & Silver), and several holidays were celebrated with the Legends of the West. I also vividly remember the Christmas I got the Legend of the Lone Ranger figures by Gabriel. I always enjoyed Cowboys at Christmas!

Love that page!!! Either Johnny West or Matt Mason were my very first action figures. Every year going to my grandmother's house for the big family get together on Christmas I was always given clothes as a present, like most kids I hated that. One year my uncle's new wife gave me a Lone Ranger and Tonto. She was instantly my favorite aunt from there on out.

My cousins had that Carson City playset, along w/ Lone Ranger Tonto, and I think Butch Cavendish. My cousin Everett had the Johnny West figure from BOTW, but he was so young when he got him that he really didn't know who he was. We always called him John Wayne. He did kinda look like The Duke.

My grandfather loved horses, and at some point, someone bought him Chief Cherokee (11) and Thunderbolt (12). He didn't display the Chief, but the horse was on a display with other horse figurines for years and years in their house. I didn't discover the Chief (and his box!) until after my grandmother passed away. I still have them, but the old chief literally fell apart. I still have the box and Thunderbolt on display, though!

The Carson City was an item I wish I would have gotten as a kid. I would have love to have played with it when my brother & I were playing Batman 66 and our custom AJ Cowboy as Shame. I had no idea it was multi-levels. Take a look thanks to an ebay seller:

^^That is a fabulous set, with the only problem being its size to display, but that's a good problem to have.
