Sean did some work for me recently.
We needed to cut the tail fins off the 3D model because they won't mold with the main body.
We also cut off the prop casing and he recreated it from scratch.
I want to finish the lower jawline, rescan the front portion.
Going to reprint and start using that as my main piece.

well, thanks to a long, long cold winter....all projects that required any painting sat idle.
It's been nice lately and I have some pics to post of the past couple weeks of sanding/filling/polishing.

My goal is to still rotocast this thing.
I'll fill the mouth and butt with clay.
Might fill the upper jaw cavity with clay to make it basically an egg-shape so I can rotocast it - problem with doing it this way is I will have a lot of dremel work to do to cut away all the fluff.
Still deciding and talking to some casting experts....

          Anyways...here are some recent pics.
I lost count how many times I have sanded and filled....I broke out the rubbing compound and buffed this primer to give me an idea..I think a black shark with red eyes looks amazing.

Course, by the time I get this molded, Figures Inc will probably have officially released their version.

                not 100% sure yet.
The long winter kept me from working on it, and now that I am unemployed - funds maaay be too tight to make the deadline.
If I make it with a fixed upper jaw it could reduce costs possibly, but I really want it to articulate. Time will tell.

Not having very good scans of the tail section, I had to build it pretty much from scratch.
Keeping in mind the molding process, if the tails have to be molded separate, then this was the solution.
If not, I made the tails jussst thick enough that being molded with the main body might work.

The piece was made from cardboard and clay, 3d scanned then printed.

We are getting there folks...slowly but surely.

It's crazy how much work you have put into this. It is all ready outstanding and you just keep tweaking it. I hope you have it for the meet and it would be really cool if you had some of your in progress parts on display with a few blown up photos.
Best of luck and I hope the $ and time find their way to you!

Still a work in progress, but getting closer.
The main body can now be printed as a single, hollow piece....and what a challenge.
Just FYI, but if I had shapeways print just the body, it would cost over $500.....nice that I have my MakerBot option....but it takes 15 hours to print JUST the body. Another two for the tail section and four for the upper jaw. Wow...twenty-one hours just to print the whole thing.
Designing the jaw pivot points next. I discovered my original scans showed the upper jaw sat unlevel because one pivot was higher than the other.

I really have tried to keep this simple, but my man hours have been triple what I originally planned...and there's still stuff I don't like, but it is what it is. I've had to make decisions for engineering/reproduction reasons. I'm in a good position for those decisions because if casting the shark doesn't happen, I can print them. Printing is time consuming and I'll have sand-n-fill, then painting.

Here's pics of the bondo prototype in white with its clay and cardboard tail section.
Next is a black and red reproduction after I rescanned the prototype so I could capture the sculpted teeth and main body tweaks.
