thanks!
You betcha Tyler - it was a long road getting results like this off the Makerbot.
I saw your Thing and Clive heads, great job. If you want me to give them a try, I have a Dropbox account if you want to drop the STL files in there.
This reeves head came out of the printer nice, but I did do some final prep.
The sanding method is great, and most of you have heard me complaining about the inability of sanding this PLA because it just gums up and melts.
A little sanding (meh, 10-15 minutes max eyeballing things) a few shots of sandable primer, dry time, another 3-5mins sanding, couple more shots of primer and you see what it resulted as.
I'll probably mold this head it turned out so good.
However, the goal is to not have the need to do all this work - I have to because it's an extrusion style printer at 100micron layers. Ridges are going to be seen, but my method reduces them if not eliminates them.Comment

Until then: "You're Heisenberg aren't you?"If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.Comment

only took me a year, but finally put this head to use.
I did mold it in silicone and made a resin head. Now that it is painted, I can see I could have polished the custom neck a bit better.

Brilliant!
Did you use Mudbox to render it?...I just started my subscription to Mudbox today and any advice you could offer would be appreciated!...the lynda.com tutorials are somewhat dry and unbelievably slow paced...I've already dozed off a couple of times and I'm still in the Getting Started section...Comment
