Mason Reese endorses Matchbox Fighting Furies

Toyfair 1974: Deviled ham pitchman Mason Reese does a little moonlighting to support the new line of pirate action figures. The Matchbox Fighting Furies were one of the nicest made action figure lines of the 1970's.

Imperial made a Batmobile?!? Look right at the paragraph break in their ad.

I don't remember Mason Reese, but there was a Superman comic story in the 70s that featured a bratty kid star who was chubby faced and red-haired. He appeared to be based on a real child actor, and I always assumed it was Danny Bonaduce. This kid looks just like the drawings!

    Can't wait for more!!!

"The Kid With The Million Dollar Smile" was indeed based on Mason Reese. In fact, the character's name was Jason Fleece. Also featured in the story is Daily Planet/WGBS gossip columnist Lola Barnett, who was based on Rona Barrett.

I remember Mason Reese and Rodney Allen Rippey being co-presenters at an awards show back then...the Grammys or the Oscars I think.

    Evel Knievel is #1

Toyfair 1974: Ideal's Evel Knievel was one of the hottest action figures going as this less than subtle ad from Ideal suggests, if you grew up in suburbia chances are you knew at least one kid with this thing.

Ah! Thanks Anthony. A 20 year old mystery solved for me (I read the story in a "Best of DC" digest).

You can say that again. Poor guy.
