Updated the article on our front page with photos....
UPDATED: The May 5th episode of Toy Hunter on Travel Channel featured this very playset variation! In the episode host Jordan Hembrough barely misses out on grabbing the set when Mego collector extraordinaire Mark Huckabone runs off with it. Mark tells us that he only knows of 2 that exist. He confirms that the set contained carded Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk figures placed inside the playset.
Jordan is kind enough to stop by the Mego Museum Forums to chat with fans from time to time. If you aren’t a member of the forum yet you are missing out on one of the best vintage toy communities online.

Cool! I see that there are a few questions about this item, so let me tell my story, in the hopes it'll help some...
I'd guess it was about 1980-81, and I saw this very set at the Circus World in Brownsville, Texas, for a very good price- my mom actually bought it for me immediately, so it must have been pretty affordable! I do remember that it was this whole set or the carded Scottie that I ACTUALLY wanted- I'd figured on getting him sometime later, but I never saw him again...
Anyway, my version contained FOUR figures- Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the Klingon, all listed on the outside sleeve!! No furniture, of course, and fewer rivets than the original- no pegs for the view screens, which weren't included anyway- but as luck would have it, when I pressed the self-destruct on my original playlet, I kept Kirk's chair, the console and tore out the entire Transporter assembly (something just told me to keep these, I don't know...), so when we got home, I just plugged and played!
Anyway, I can vouch for these appearing at retail as late as the time period above. Hope this helps out!
(BTW, I still have all four of these figs, as well as my namesake, my first action figure ever, bought for me whenever it was that they came out...)AUDACIEUX ET TENACEComment

I like the show, but I think it's probably annoying to watch it with me. I just want to keep pausing the screen and look at the people's shelves. Some of the collections seem a bit "meh," but some totally floor me.Comment

I have definitely seen one of these before, probably a late 90s toy show. I thought it was home made to sell it better never really gave it some thought but I bet there are a lot more of these around and they will pop up now.
