Wow, that's really sad. He was a good character actor. RIP Malachi.

        Great actor, awesome voice.
I remember listening to his narration on the old "The Empire Strikes Back" story LP, non stop.
        RIP.

Malachi Throne's original voice performance as the Talosian Magistrate in the 1964 Star Trek pilot, recorded at a public screening in 1982. Audience reactio...

You can hear snippets of the unaltered voice in the parts of The Cage that they didn't use in The Menagerie and the next week preview for part 2. The blu ray restored version gies ahead and pitches up the voice in the Cage only moments so they match. I wish that instead they restore the original Keeper track without the electronic work but the only source of that is Gene Roddenberry's scratchy black and white print (where you can hear that the sound quality is pretty lacking).

He also did the voice over for the first Star Wars trailer.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Now that I did not know! It's amazing how many actors we have seen narrated trailers like this. Percy Rodriguez comes to mind. He was in Court Marshal and a lot of other stuff and did a lot of 70's trailers, including JAWS. He was also the voice of the Loc- nar in Heavy Metal.

Throne had a great, gravelly vocal quality.

If you really want a feel for the theatrics Throne had, find his Lost In Space episode "Thief From Outer Space", where he plays this Ali Baba/Aladdin type with the great Ted Cassidy as his muscle. Probably my favorite LIS episode because Throne was lightyears better than Jonathan Harris.
