Well, it doesn't cost a heckuva lot to actually print the head, but ya gotta figure in time and overhead...the printer itself was over a couple grand.
I uploaded a hulk head to Shapeways.com to have it printed...they wanted $20 plus shipping

I was just curious about the plastic you use and how many can be made. Kinda like printer ink vs pages.

              thanks Mike!
              What a huge effort though...
Scanning the original 8" boot and keeping it from changing shape..could never do it with the CTVT boot cuz it's thin and warpie.
Then, we figured out how to print hollow (ie, my six million dollar man parts).
But the lip of the boot was not printing right, so we had to use supports, which doubled the print time - about 2 hours per boot.
Even though it's hollow, there are some random boogers and strings that get knocked out as I squeeze a foot in.
Plus, these boots were only printed in medium resolution - and still look great.
I am tempted to try dipping them juuust up to that top lip into plasti-dip and see how they look that way, then paint the black details.

The good news is... once you have mastered making those boots, just about any other boots will be a cinch. Very cool.

                  Yeppers.
I am gonna redo them today in high res hopefully...then I just ought to have the casting gurus start making molds of the master printed parts..

Simply amazing, this is going to change customs forever. We are going to be able to not only produce but honestly make items we've only dreamed before but with the end product looking as if it was produced by a major manufacturer. Excellent work. My hat is off to you.
                      Thanks ~ Jase

                        thanks!
Ya know...with the way this Thor is turning out...my gears are already spinning....
I have the next two 8" Mego figures in place and ready to scale up to 12"...and I think y'all will really dig em.
Matter of fact, when I told Sean who I was wanting to put into the 3rd slot on the to-do list, he actually wanted me to bump him up on the agenda and have done for MegoMeet 2013...whoa, dunno if I can pull it off in time...I can try though...
It's such a neat challenge to attempt with Mego what Gentle Giant did with the vintage Star Wars figs...1:1 reproductions, just bigger...that's my goal with this project.

Plus, we have a 4" to 8" enlargement on the project table right now that's bound to make some folks excited. This particular group of figs has been mastered by just one other on these boards (best I know anyway) so it will be our take on em...the heads are a little different than what he used. I don't think we will outdo his achievement, wouldn't try to outdo him either, but they're gonna be fun to make!

While not Mego-related, we did our very first print that was bigger than our build plate.
It was scanned from the talking doll and enlarged 155%, which I think I should still go bigger.
But, this was merely an endurance test of the printer with each piece taking about two hours to print.
This was the fastest, lowest resolution of the printer, with a couple of those pieces being the thinnest and all hollow.
I really wanna make the rest of the puppet eventually.
