The latest print looks great! Do you have your own 3d scanner?
                Looking for:

Yes we do, it's a NextEngine HD 3D Scanner

Prints continue to do really well.
About 4 hours to do that helmet...you can tell from the one helmet just how bad it used to be.
Look at those crisp facial details on Thor.
Both items derived from scans using the nextengine.

That's amazing ! Could it scan the Rudy Wells heads and shrink them down to 8" scale?

Yes if we have the head, shrinking it is totally possible.

Cool ! I didn't get the Rudy set, because the heads were so huge but now I'll look into it a bit more seriously.
What would it cost to shink per head, and can they be painted?

that's neat Jason - thanks for sharing.
The ABS cleanup method has been juggled around as a trick, but our machine uses PLA - its properties are different.
As it stands right now, we are getting the .10 layer height consistently and the prints are coming out pretty nice - not smooth-as-glass, but considering it is laying a layer of melted PLA at 100 microns, well....lol....you can see the layers, and barely feel them with your fingernail.
The printed parts (now that we have the machine fixed and reliable) are good enough to paint.
It's not as fine as an Objet printer...but it's also comparing apples to oranges.
The makerbot is cheap - $2100 whereas the Objets (I think) are well over $15,000 for desktop models.

Give this stuff another 5 years....in five years time, we'll have already built a digital library of parts here at the boards and we'll look back and go wow...
wow that the prints looked the way they do and took hours haha
