That's right, the original 20 and 60 GB versions were fully backwards compatible, as they had the full chip set.

And the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle was the last PS3 to feature integrated backwards compatibility, as it had the GPU, but replaced the Emotion Engine chip with software emulation. That version of the console can apparently still play most PS2 games, but support isn't as comprehensive as the earlier models with the actual Emotion Engine CPU.

Do the PS3's with backward compatibility tend to be more valuable and sought after in the secondary market? It's probably to early to tell though.

I think so, yes. I've had a couple people offer me decent prices for my original 60 GB model (which after six years still works great, knock on wood!). So there is definitely demand for those ones, sometimes I toy with the idea of selling it (still have it's original box and everything) but I'd feel bad if it broke down soon after me doing so, who knows how long one of these "old" ones will keep working.

Which PS3 do you guys think is better: 20 GB or 60 GB?

a friend of mine told me that on the PS3 marketplace or app store they now offer a playstation 1 and 2 emulator for ps3. It is a free download I was told. I do not have a ps3 so i cannot confirm it, but the person in question I know is pretty reliable. Can anyone check into this?

The 60GB one. Besides the extra hard drive space, it has camera card slots and can connect to the internet wirelessly, the 20 GB model doesn't.

Interesting, I'll check that out on their marketplace.

                  Never owned a PS2.

Just bought a PS3 Slim a few months ago mainly for Blue ray play, and have been very happy with it.

I'm not into new games (except sports games), I'm old school, stuff ilke Galaga, Centipede, Defender, etc, lol.

                    I prefer the classics to.

A little more interested in the ps3 if it has the option of playing ps1 and ps2 though.

PS3 slim also doesn't heat up like the previous models.

I like the PS3 for JRPGs... it has a decent selection.

All models of PS3s can play PS1 games.
But it's only the early models that can play PS2 titles.
