"Batman is Batman", she says

I checked out a copy of "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns pt 1" from the local public library this morning. I saw it before but wanted to watch it again this weekend. I was impressed.

On the way home I noticed that the librarian had accidentally given me 1992's "Batman Returns" with Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito instead. The same thing happened the first time I borrowed this film. Honest enough mistake and I just walked back to the library and politely asked for the right disc. But then the librarian got all freaked out and just said "No, that's Batman Returns."

"But it's not the right one" I replied and pointed out the full title on the box.

"Batman is Batman." she said and just kind of crossed her arms.

Without wanting to lecture her about how off base she was acting I just repeated that it was the wrong disc. Lucky for me, a library volunteer intervened and got the right disc for me.

The librarian said "I hate those videos anyway."

With all the variations on a theme in literature and movies, I would think it's a librarian's job to keep an open mind about the nuances of such things.

And my wife is a librarian, and she would never treat a patron like that.

Exactly. Very unprofessional. She also asked a friend of mine who would want to read Keith Richard's bio when he requested it.

How old was this person? A teenager maybe? Or really old? But even if really old, you'd think they'd care about putting the proper dvd's in their cases...

I'd go over their head too. If she'd do that with Batman, what else is she doing it to? Kids could be taking home material for grown ups.

Also, I find it funny how a VOLUNTEER does a better job than the actually employee. She sounds awful and should be fired.

Maybe not, but if her boss knew she was being that rude, she could be demoted to shelving books or sorting them from the return bin! She doesn't need to have contact w/ the public.
