We had a store here called "Howard's", not sure if it's the same thing, but it was a K-Mart-like dept store. Had a great toy department. Closed up around 1985 or so. I know there were others here in KY.

Yep, we had one. In the early 80s that was the place to go for toys around here. As a kid we always went there to buy my Halloween costume. They closed up around 1988.

Howard Brother's was a department store, on the lines of K-Mart, I guess, but it had its own charm. I was wondering if HB was just a regional thing, because I notice that when I bring it up, it tends to be a regional thing, mostly in the south. I dont know....

                Howard Brother's

Oh Ok, NC huh. I thought it may be a southern thing. I just wasnt sure. Yes, Howard Brother's had it own uniqueness back then, like many other stores back in that era. I think the one we had here in my town lasted until the mid 80's sometime, then it folded, just like the originl K-Mart here also, and the TG&Y, and many others....Sad....
