Thread: Collecting VS. Hoarding

  1. I mean once you start storing things in rental storage units ect....you have gone too far....UNLESS you sell on a consistant basis at trade shows ect, and make decent money off of it. Right now I am in the process of trying to figure out the best way to display my more expensive comics, no need for them to be in a box.

I used to go to the toy shows 3 times a year, and now I limit myself to 1, the big one, in December. I really don't want my toy room to look junky. And I will be selling a few things, (probably in the Mego Marketplace) before the holidays. I'm no hoarder.

I've been considering downsizing my collection. I am fortunate to have a toy room, but I have a hard time deciding what to display and what to store (or possibly just get rif of). Wish I could focus my collecting a bit more. I'd like to get it down to just vintage toys, but something new always comes out and ruins that idea. Like the new Bionic Bigfoot from BBP. How could I not display that?

When a collection is now in tons and tons of storage bins and you have no clue what's in them you are a hoarder. especially if you have toys that no one has any interest in, you bought it just to buy it.....

A vintage toy store with tons of toys everywhere is fun...someone's house with junk toys everywhere is a mess.......

A toy collection is usually one room big or small with your collection in it proudly displayed.....when you start throwing everything in storage bins and putting them away and never look at them you're a hoarder and it's time to have a garage sale and recoup some money back......

I keep an inventory of what I hoard. Does that count?
It's not how hard you hit, but how hard you can be hit and still move forward.

I am a hoarder, no doubt. I buy doubles for very miniscule reasons and then ask myself why?

    Honestly ...
I think Characteristics of Hoarding Struck onto me ..., when I progressed from Kitbasher ..., to Customizer. In Molds alone ...., I couldn't begin to explain.

I agree with what others here have said. If you have a collection lovingly displayed in limited areas of your house, you are a collector. If you have stuff randomly clogging large portions of your living space with no rhyme or reason, or tons of stuff just packed away in storage, never seeing the light of day, you are probably a hoarder. If I buy something and it ends up packed away in a box, after a year or two, I start to think if I can't or don't want to display it, it's time to sell it.

My basement is very packed. I have gotten rid of some stuff that I no longer collect ( hot wheels , nascar, ) . All I did was fill it back up with the new stuff I collect. Thats just in my house. My garage is stocked up with over 200 christmas blowmolds. I just can't stop buying them. snowman.jpg

All my toy collection is in a 6' x 2.5' glass cabinet...hardly hoarding.

Having said that...my room is a bit cluttered...but that's just from pure laziness, lol.
