Is anyone else sick of hearing about Whitney Houston?

Why do people keep going on and on and ON about this woman?! They act like we lost a freaking national treasure or something. She hadn't done anything worth mentioning in like 20 years.
You don't hear a peep any more about Robin Gibb, who was FAR more talented than Whitney Houston, and whose death was far more tragic, since he actually suffered and didn't accidentally do himself in with drugs and alcohol. Yet, they keep putting the washed up addict on a pedestal.

    Go figure.

I haven't heard anything at all.

Maybe the obsession is regional ?

I think its because of Sparkle. A movie that has just been released. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparkle_(2012_film)

Im tired of the pedestal celebrities are put on altogether. Shows like Entertainment tonight use to go more in depth on the set of films and television show but now have been reduced to just entertainment gossup. I wonder how much of this gossup is true sometimes.

I wish it was more about the arts and less about the celebrity.

You can't put on a radio station here without being blasted by "I will always love you". Like with Jackson, dying seems to be a real miracle fix. All of a sudden, you're no longer a freak/junkie/weirdo/drunk, but once again you're a pop icon. I think a lot of people prefer their idols dead, that way they can't do anything wrong anymore.

People seem to have a need to first worship somebody, then despise them, then love them again. Look what happened to Britney Spears and George Michael.

Unfortunately, enyawd, I have a feeling that the WH deluge is only just beginning. I will bet anyone here that she gets a posthumous nod for either Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress come Oscar time....
Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

No joke. What irritates me is when news sources report what celebrities views are concerning matters outside their fields of expertise. Actors and actresses are paid to look pretty and repeat stuff smarter people have written for them. Their opinions mean next to nothing. It makes no difference to our lives what Tom Morello, Dave Mustaine, Ted Nugent, or Roseanne Barr think about politics. Why is Jenny McCarthy telling people not to get their children vaccinated, f.ex.? She got famous for exhibiting her mammaries, not her extensive research into medical science. When I see people reporting on Cher's latest tweets, all I'm getting is confirmation she keeps her figure by dieting solely on paint chips.

Sorry about the above, but I wanted to see how curmudgeonly I could sound. I do mean it, though.

People are only famous because society makes them that.

You can only half blame the media --- SOMEBODY has to eat it up.

I'm soooo out of it all I can't even name 1 song that was made after the 90's (seriously)

I jumped the ship and I am happy living in my own world of "classic" songs

I'm sorry, but Houston's voice was miles ahead of Gibb...not even close. You might have not like her style, but she had massive pipes on her. Gibb was a pleasant voice, but not overly out of this world or anything. I'm sure Gibb was a more talented songwriter (Houston was not really a songwriter, but someone like Elvis was not really a great songwriter either)...but not singer.

I don't understand the hate here...so she's mentioned in the news a lot (although not lately, at least to me), well, OK, she was a drug addict...but so was Elvis, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, etc, and no one is hating on them.

She's gone now...no need to throw more dirt at her.

I always felt a bit sorry for her, what with the kind of life she was leading with all of the drugs, and other drama.

She didn't deserve to die the way that she did; no one does.

The only good thing to come out of the entire debacle is that she is at peace now, and can't be harmed by her demons anymore.

I just hope that her daughter doesn't go down the same road, or we'll be mourning her loss in about ten or fifteen years; crying about what a waste of talent and potential.
