I bought the Mattel head-shrinks, (Palitoy heads?), Paul Evans sells, (before CTVT came out with their Bergman). Mine are still in a box, unpainted and on my to-do list but they looked mighty nice and will complete the set.

What I got from this thread: CTVT is offering the old defective stock at super inflated prices. (Probably to cover the Kiss Liciencing fees)
WOW!!! CTVT should have known they have a tight market group (Namely US!!!) and that we all talk to each other! This move seems like economic suicide to me.
I mean, I'm a Kiss fan from wayback but never had to figures. So I'm not really killing myself to get a set. But I do buy customizing stuff (IE bodies and accessories.) I overlooked to quality issues in the past. I just factored repairs into the customizing routine. But Forget that now. I'll forsake quantity for quality if I have to pay as much as higher priced raw materials and go elsewhere for Mego like bodies.

Check my Gallery pics, it's STILL worth it spend the $$ to have an original Palitoy Koenig.. I put his standard costume away to keep it pristine and just have him and my vingage Alan wearing regular CTVT spacesuits..:

Would have still liked a Helena, but not willing to go through the trouble with customs.

CTVT seems to raise the prices on stuff when they start to get low on inventory, so if the Space 1999 figures have gone up from the $5 they were selling for it may mean they are starting to run low, I noticed this with the Happy days line just before certain figures became unavailable. As for the quality of the bodies, I usually buy from them for parts for customs. when the figures were $5 it was cheaper to buy a whole figure with the head or clothing parts I needed than to buy just the parts, so I tend to have extra bodies lying around to use for repair. I'd say for every unusable body I got from them I also have one that's good, and most of the different color bodies they sell that I have are fine, much fewer problems than with the bodies used in some of the lines they produced.

They still sell the complete set pretty cheap.

    >is the body issues specific to any one line?

The older the body, the worse they are. Space: 1999 was one of their earlier lines, so they got a lot of problems. Most of the newer stuff I've got from them is pretty good; almost Mego quality.

For myself, CTVT remains mainly a clothes and accessory site only. From that perspective, their value is enormous. They have the best prices on those pieces. But for figures, they still rank at the bottom. And my experiment buying their "new" eight inch KISS figures didn't make me reconsider that ranking. The hair was terrible on all of them (especially Stanley). And the bodies were all so tight they couldn't stand on their own. Add to that all the bad paint touch ups and poorly tailored outfits, the cost cutting effect was obvious. And I think the only reason why the 12 inch line sold out was because they produced a limited run of those versus the eight inch line. I think they felt the Mego size might take off since it was a new format. Doesn't look that way. And I'm not bothering with the 12 inch figures at all because those are so over priced, it's a joke. To say they got greedy is an understatement. You can buy most vintage Mego KISS figures for that money. Good luck on making their investment back on that license.
It's not how hard you hit, but how hard you can be hit and still move forward.
