Bat Is Didio still out to kill Nightwing?

I know the return of the Joker as a belted-on-face slasher murderer is part of a new version of "A Death in the Family", a crossover which is running through the DCnU Batman-related titles. And it is of course named after the famous 1988 storyline where the Joker (and fans) killed Jason Todd. DC is obviously hinting that some Batman Family member is going to die.

Then I get an email from DC Entertainment touting a "Nightwing 101" sale:

    http://www.readdcentertainment.com/N...collection/572

And the ad shows a previous cover where Nightwing has a target on his face.

Coincidence? Redirection? Or telegraphing the outcome of an upcoming storyline (which DC has managed to do for decades)?

If they kill off Dick Grayson, then I'm done with the Batman mythos as they stand today. Yes they can always bring him back, death in comics isn't permanent, but still...

If THIS Dick Grayson is killed, it won't bother me as much as it would have even a year ago. I feel MY versions of the characters are off in some universe somewhere, not being published right now.

It would still be really wrong though. But I've disagreed with almost every aspect of the DCnU, so...

The one thing that would get me to quit comics would be the Death of Dick Grayson...

If it tells you anything, the last time I got a digital sale email like this, it was a Bane-centric sale, right before DKR opened. So these usually relate to some kind of event...

    I hope I'm wrong.

Slight Spoilers for Dark Knight Rises

This sale COULD be related to DKR, and not the upcoming "Death in the Family" series. John Blake's characters was the closest thing to Nightwing we're going to get in the Nolan films, and of course he is "Robin", so maybe that's it.

The storyline is called Death of The Family. I took that to imply that the Joker was going to be breaking up the Bat-Family.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.

    Bat

The positive side is (because the negative is just speculation), there is some great reading for fans of Old School DC to be had if you are digitally inclined. It's been ages since I've read Judas Contract, and Chuck Dixon's run is solid.

There is the BoP crossover which I recommend, and I kind of enjoyed the Nightwing/Huntress mini too.

I'm trying to remain hopeful that this means that Nightwing is going to get a higher profile bump within the Bat Family, although the question is, what does it mean for the character that Tom DeFalco is writing the current series? 90's Marvel chronyism is alive and well at DC currently now that Bob Harras is behind the wheel. Over at Marvel, they kept Spidergirl going forever as Defalco's post EIC "golden handcuff" gig. In much the same way Levitz will no doubt have writing gigs at DC on Legion or whatever for a good long time into his retirement.

I loved Dixon's run on Nightwing. Unfortunately Devin Grayson came in and blew apart all Chuck had set up. It was painful.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. I've always been waiting for the other shoe to drop ever since Didio targeted the character for death in Infinite Crisis.
