The Last Man on Earth (Vincent Price)

Was watching The Last Man on Earth yesterday.

I always liked the movie but never loved it.

The problem was the vampires just plain aren't scary.

For me personally I think the best part of the movie is BEFORE we see the vampires --- just Price alone.

What did you think of it ?

The CGI in the Smith version was horrible, but if it wasn't for that I would like the Smith "vampires" best.

They did look kinda scary

I'm probably going to get a lot of heat for this but I always though Omega Man was boring --- probably the most boring of the 3 movies.

I liked this one a lot, and think it's the best of the three movies. You're right that the monsters aren't really scary, but I think it was done as more of a drama than a sci-f/monster film. It didn't get MARKETED that way though.

I like it the best of the three versions too. One of the reasons is because it really showcases Vincent Price. I agree that it's more intriguing before the vampires. That whole thing with the dog is very sad.

I wish they had come up with something more interesting than storybook vampires - but in a silly way it makes it charming.

i couldn't get 20 minutes into this one. boring as hell. I like Heston's version for it's 70's cheese factor, which is it's charm. Loved Smith's I am Legend. looking forward to the sequel

I'm with you. I loved "The Omega Man" for years and really liked "I am Legend" VP's version was too boring.

I'm a huge VP fan, but I have to admit liking Omega Man. The vampiric "cult" aspect & Anthony Zerbe's performance stand out.

I like all three of them, for different reasons.
I think the Price is a good representation of a normal guy trying to cope with his family dying, and his world crumbling. Out of the three, this version gives more time to this aspect, which I liked. He's also not a real fighting man, as opposed to Heston and Smith with their guns. It's more of a family drama. Plus, I love Price, he was a terrific actor.

Heston gave us some drama (loved the Woodstock part) and lots of action. I grew up with this movie (dubbed in French and German, they didn't show it in Belgium). You haven't lived until you've seen Chuck in German. The "vampires" were pretty silly here, what's with albino monks anyway? Anthony Zerbe was great, I liked the fact that Heston had a good antagonist to act against. I also enjoyed the design of Heston's home, with the Caesar statue and all.

Smith did well, good movie, but I hated the CG vampires. Skinny actors with makeup would have done the trick at a fraction of the cost (like in The Descent), it would have looked and felt more real. Loved the cityscapes, for this part the CG really paid off. I felt terrible when his dog turned vampire, and I wished he would have survived to give us some hope.

I give Price points for realism, Heston points for shooting a huge rifle, and Smith for acting well with canines!
