Thread: What's your process?

  1. #1

    Question What's your process?

How do you deceide what to make/customize? What's the breakdown? How do you get there? I was chatting with a regular about this and wondered how. I reverse engineer. If I Really want a particular figure I'll start from scratch, but in general because of part/head availability, I see what I already have and prefer to buy a few parts if needed as compared to having to make a more expensive figure from scratch. I guess i'm not that particular and can make whatever with whatever. I am a Marvel not a DC (except for Bats and Supes universe) so i try to go that way when possible...................Discuss.

I pick a team see who has what heads availible or if a generic will work, email brian for a suit and then order from doc or ctvt to get boots and gloves. when all the pieces start coming in i start putting it together.
Or i see an ebay item form brian and then try and get head and boots.

usually a pic I see will get the ball rolling in my noggin. Or I just fish thru my head box till I get inspired by something in there.

for me it's the desire to mkae a certain character. If the desire is there, I'll find a way to do it. I consider what parts, heads, etc are readily available and then make up the rest as I go. Sometimes it goes fairly easy, sometimes not so much . . . . but like many things in life that's part of the fun

Once I decide on what I want to make, I start drawing up ideas of what the figure might look like, I also begin making a list of the parts I'll need. If I'm making an outfit for the figure (and not buying one ready made) I tend to also plan out how to make said outfit.

What a great idea for a thread.
My current interest is coming from the WGSH line. I'm currently working from the idea of unproduced villains, or characters that I felt could have been alot better. (i.e. Lizard and Thing.) I'm shying away from characters that will require custom bodies. (i.e. Lizard and Moleman.) I'm also trying to avoid characters where an accurate manufactured product or head can be customed. (i.e. Dr. Doom and Mysterio.) With this in mind, I start a list.
From the list. I review images of each character and consider how to make a custom mego with repro parts purchased and custom made by myself. Characters are constantly moving down the list, for the simple reason that I don't know how to complete them. Any character that gets close to a complete recipe, and I start a thread on this board for ideas. That's when this site shines like a beacon. The brainstorming here is invaluable. So much talent, and experience, just for the price of asking.

Moleman looks great on an Our Gang body.

I believe I used regular sized arms. Head and idea for body from Ed Nagy.

Thank you. Just received a child body from DrMego. Moleman is back on the list.
