I like both movie versions and miniseries , never read the books .

Though the sand worm toy was cool .

nah - there is no minority there. Plenty of Dune fans enjoy the film version as well as the books. I am one of them.

The toys still have some value to them. I mean, you don't have to sink a mint into them, but it'll take a couple of bills to put the whole shebang together. And the sandworm, tho drastically out of scale with the figures, is a great desk ornament.

I actually like Lynch's Dune a lot... it's sort of like a flawed masterpiece.

The movie's production design is great.

There are some amazing images in that movie that will stay with you long after watching it.

Lynch strangely added some elements that weren't in the book, and also cut out a few plot points, but all in all I like his adaptation.

Great cast too... Patrick Stewart, Max Von Sydow, Brad Dourif, Jurgen Prochnow, et al.

The extended TV broadcast version is memorable because it restores a lot of cut scenes... but Lynch hated that unauthorized cut so much he took his name off it.

I recommend the book to anyone too... it's a truly great work of SF.

I remember going to see it with my dad in the theater. I was expecting to see a Star Wars type movie and I left going ***? It moved to slow for me as a kid. Of course now I think the movie is killer. Didn't they spend a ton of $$ making it back then?

I am fascinated with DUNE. It's such a great story with some of the most interesting characters ever created. I've read the books and have all the action figures except for one. I even own the DUNE encyclopedia which is very indepth.

I was lucky enough to have read the book before I saw the film. While in many ways the vision isn't even close to the one in my head I enjoyed it and having read the book I understood alot of plot points which were missing. the extended cut is much easier to follow for those that haven't read the book but it is very very long and still missing parts that make the plot clear. I think that herbert's dune is like Tolkein's Hobbit and ring trilogy it's too big for a 2 hour film it takes a stong commitment to translate it to film (or tv as I think the miniseries failed the material too)

i lked the tv miniseries, but again, i never read the book. i just thought giving it a longer timeframe to tell the story allowed it to develope things so much more. the sequel miniseries was lacking thogh. i think it combined book 2 and 3 - Heretic and Children of Dune - and just crammed stuff together and was hard to follow.

I always liked the movie and read the book recently and I enjoyed that too. The follow up book wasn't quite as exciting. As I read it seemed a rather uncomfortable future wau of man.

Back in high school I had chosen to read Dune for an independent study project. I had heard good things and thought I'd try it. I couldn't even finish the book I disliked it so much. So my friend told me to watch the movie. It was even worse! In the end, my friend did the project for me because I wasn't allowed to switch books for some reason. It's the only time in my high school career that I didn't do my own home work.

I never bothered to watch any of the newer mini-series or movies or whatever.
