Thread: Dyeing rooted hair?

    Dyeing rooted hair?

I am trying to turn white hair into black. Is this possible? I came into possession of a bag of various CTTV parts and heads and I have this Space 1999 dude with the long white hair. I want to see if I can make this black. I've never had any luck with Rit dye before and I'm unconcerned about dyeing the head, it'll just get painted over anyway. I always like to try to use the parts I have if I can, so what are my best dye job options?
India recently declared dolphins to be non-human persons and deserving of specific rights. Next, they'll try to do the same thing for women.

I Just take a Black marker and just keep going over it until it's all dark. Blonde Dinah mite became red for black widow and black for The Cat.

I hate to break it to you Scott, but doll hair doesn't take dye really well. My guess is that you'll end up with a medium grey at best.

Just a thought here but they do make a dye for synthetic fibers (nylon/spandex/etc.) I used it to dye some fabric flesh coloured to do body suits and it worked great. I'm thinking it may work for the synthetic hair? I picked it up at JoAnns Fabrics for about $4 and had to use only a very small amount to dye fabric enough for about 10 body suits. You may want to give that a shot.

Hmmmm.... most toy hair is made of entirely nonporous plastic, so it doesn't take dyes well at all. (Most toy plastics don't.) If it takes at all, you'll get something about 50 to 80 percent lighter than the intended colour. (Over white hair you'll have better luck.) The marker trick works, but give it a LONG time to dry.... a couple days at least. Your best bet is to reroot.

I guess using a blow dryer to speed things up is out, huh?

Hey guys, I saw something at the craft store you might want to try. It's a color spray for floral arrangements. I was looking for a way to get specific length and color of faux fur to use on a wig. They didn't have long faux fur in the color I needed, and one of the employees suggested this spray. He said that it remains flexible once dry.I wonde how it reacts with synthetic hair. I'm not sure if it's for natural flowers or silk though. I don't know what its exact name was, or how easy it is to control the spray. But it's a thought, if anyone wants to try it and post the results.
