One more payment on my car left and it gets hit....

So, I haven't been on the forum much this past month because I'm moving from my one bedroom apartment into my very own home. It's exciting and overwhelming at the same time but between all the work that's involved in the updates and the move itself, I've had little time for anything else. I've been ebaying like crazy, paying off bills and just getting ready to start what's basically going to be the rest of my life in my new house. In 2006, I was in a very serious near fatal car accident when an 18 wheeler ran a red light and almost killed me. My car was obviously totaled and I went out and bought the exact same car only instead of an '04 Yellow Jeep Wranger, I bought an '06 Yellow Jeep Wrangler. After six long years of payments, I sent the second to last one to the bank this Monday. Tonight, I took the night off from any house/moving work and decided to take my son to see Brave (meh....but that's for another time.) We got home, I parked on the side street where I always do and went inside for the evening. About an hour later I heard this incredibly loud smash and living near a busy road, I'm pretty accustomed to accidents outside my front window but when I looked to see what happened I saw...nothing. I thought about it for a second and looked out the window that faces the side street and sure enough someone had come off the highway too fast and smashed into the rear of my car. Hard. Really, really hard. I ran outside as they were trying to drive away and the girl driving stopped to get out. She tried to sweet talk me and write me a check so long as I didnt call the cops or involve the insurance companies but one look at the damage to my car (she hit me so hard, my glove box broke on the front dash) I knew that wasn't gonna happen. I told her no and called the police to file a report and then she went Ape on me. Now, I'm about the whitest boy alive (she and her boyfriend are also white) but man she must have called me the N word about a dozen times in a very getto-like gangsta voice (completly the opposite of the very breathy lets make a deal sweet talk voice she tried on me first.) Seriously, it was like Jeckyll and Hyde. One moment she's telling me we can work this out somehow and the next she threatened to sue me (for what I don't know) and she also threatened to cut my throat open. Nice girl. Oh and she reeked of booze. Her boyfriend had to pull her away from me. The cops showed up and despite her jumping the curb, running over and knocking a street sign down, and ramming my car to the point where I think it may be totaled by the insurance company (I drove it around the block and it bucks and squeaks and there's definitely something up with the steering along with all the body damage she did to it) at 1 am all while stinking of liquor, he did not arrest her. He wrote her a reckless driving summons and told me she didn't have enough alcohol on her system to qualify for "over the limit." My guess is she knows someone but that's beside the point. Six years of payment after payment and with one left to go before this car was 100% all mine, my car gets hit so hard I may loose it entirely. I feel like the guy in all those cop movies that's supposed to retire in a week and get clipped on his last day of field duty. Oh and what's worse is my Wrangler has 125,000 miles on it (all put on by me) so the value of the car will be severely diminished a ton of custom add ons (which the insurance will not factor in if they total it) and last year I had to put a $4000 new transmission, a set of $1000 new tires, new brakes, timing chain, alternator and a few other things costing me just over $7k. That's money I won't get back either. I am just so sick over this and since it's 4 am and I don't think I'll be getting to bed anytime soon figured I'd type it up for all you to read. The house is coming along nicely though but when it rains it freakin pours.

I feel for you,I just had close to the same thing happen.I had a driver from behind me not see me taking a left turn and hit his brakes and went into the other lane and hit me in the drivers side door and totaled my 2008 ford lariat.I hope you have better luck,I'm still fighting with his insurance company,he said he was not at fault but was driving on a suspended drivers and someone else's truck.

While it sucks your car was hit, the bright side is that you weren't sitting in the car with your son when it happened.

I think the bank hires people to do this kind of stuff just so you will need to finance another vehicle. Just kidding of course. Sorry about the Jeep and what you went through. Good move though as far as not working it out with her.

Oh man, that is crazy!!! So sorry. You made the right choice involving police. Insurance companies require that.
What a nightmare. Hang in there!!!

Going forward, you might consider leasing a car. I have found to be a nice experience and totally worth it after figuring in the costs of repair when owning.

The whole part about the officer saying the driver that hit your car doesn't have enough alcohol in her system is outrageous. I'd be tempted to go talk to the chief of police about that, or go complain to the mayor or your city council at their next meeting. If someone is driving drunk, they are a danger to the community and it really shouldn't be up to an officer to decide whether someone is sober enough to drive when you can clearly smell alcohol on the driver's breath... a breathalyzer should have been administered at the scene.

Wow, I'm so sorry. But like Steve said, at least you and your son weren't sitting in it. I hope it all works out for the best.
