I came across this by accident on youtube. This is my first time seeing them. I think i would like to have this on dvd.
I dont know anything about the book, has anyone read it? Theres suppose to be some major differences in terms of technology compared to the film version because of budget concerns.

The series is available on disk. It's kinda neat.... if you can deal with 1970's tv animation. I haven't read the book, but I've been told this is a little closer than the movie but still kind of off. The cartoon adds all sorts of odd stuff to the story.... including a tribe of oddly Buddhist apes, and an airplane.

I love the fighter plane, and other vehicles and ape war-machines in the cartoon.
The most troubling aspect of the cartoon is that Urko is voiced by the same guy who did the voice for Fred Flintstone... very weird!

In the book, the planet has apes living in cities identical to 20th century human cities, wearing 20th century style clothing, having 20th century technology, etc.
But a lot of the major plot points are essentially similar.
In some ways, the cartoon is closer to the book than the movie was.
I'm very glad the movie didn't go in that direction. The production design on POTA was masterful; the design of ape city and the ape costumes is iconic and timeless.

I love the Animated Planet of the Apes 1975 I need to purchase this dvd set
i have a bootleg of the series on VHS from years backl, before it got an official DVD release. it is an interesting time capsule but the animation is primitive and as noted, hearing Fred Flinstone coming out of Urkos mouth is wierd
I bought this on DVD and though the animation is a bit sketchy at times, I still love it. Anyone who does by it though, the episodes are in the order of their release date, not in the order they were meant to be watched. I think I got the correct order for them off of the POTA Wiki.
I really love the Apes franchise growing up. I remember waking up early to catch the show. Seemed closer to the book then the films at the time.
Had no idea Friz Freleng and Doug Wildey were involved with this.
