The last time I saw an actual ice-cream truck was some time in the 90s, when it used to stop by the local grade school after school. I still miss the days of the Mister Softee trucks, w/ real soft serve cones. Ahh...memories. Now all I see are the guys w/ the push carts, tooling around the lake w/ the pre-fab ice-cream bars and popsicles. It's just not the same.

Ahh...but those are memories for me...you see...those guys are Paleteros...that's old school Mexican right there...they are everywhere south of the border...as a kid...I got a thrill watching them come to my street...ahh...those are memories for me...and now they have invaded the States...about friggin' time...

But the authentic Paletero cart should mostly have ice pop's made out of real fresh fruit (and some have very exotic ingredients)...some of the ones here in America have those mediocre things you mentioned...you should try the ones in Mexico.

Those guys work hard...they walk basically an entire marathon everyday...and many get robbed...it's a hard low-paid job...

  3. ¡Paletas! We have some great ones. Can't get enough of 'em. I made an entire bike route centered around the paleta shop!

they are all over Brooklyn and Staten Island. During that winter time heat wave we had a few months back, they started coming out.

I guess I've seen to many Criminal Mind type shows. When I see an ice cream truck now I think........(fill in the blank)

In Manhattan, they just pull over and park on the corner. No music, but you pretty much don't have to travel that far for your chocolate eclair bar.

I have never seen an ice cream truck or ice cream cart; Not something we have around here. But then again, I live out in the sticks. The closest town is an upscale beach resort and you will not find one there either as peddlers of any kind are strictly forbidden and dealt with swiftly.
