The Avengers director Joss Whedon, who signed a deal to creatively consult on all of the films leading into The Avengers sequel, including Guardians of the Galaxy, was enthusiastic about the selection of Gunn to direct, saying "James [Gunn] is what makes me think it will work... He is so off the wall, and so crazy, but so smart, such a craftsman and he builds from his heart. He loves the raccoon. Needs the raccoon... He has a very twisted take on it, but it all comes from a real love for the material. It's going to be hard for [the human characters] to keep up."

I worked on the film Tromeo & Juliet, which James Gunn wrote the script for for Troma. On that production people knew they were working on a low budget film yet often they would say, that's not my job, I'm not helping you, I'm not stepping outside my area to lend you any aid. One guy was so disgustingly offensive I wanted to crack him in the jaw for being a jerk.

I think the film has a very good chance with him directing. I think he's also a big-time comic reader. He tried creating a cast of super-hero characters in the 1990's years before HEROES was popular on TV.

Sounds like he's a pretty cool guy. I can't wait to see what he'll bring to this film. If he's that detailed oriented, then Guardians should be awesome.

This is already getting a great fan response from all the sites and pages that i have been on. It has just the right tone to it. I think it will do ok, there is no pressure for this to be a massive hit. New characters, no expectations is win win for Marvel. Maybe they should give some tease that Thanos is in it, that would be cool.

I have nothing to pull from with regards to anything I read in comics for the Guardians. I think I saw them once when they were in a team up with the Thing and Cap back in the 70's, but that's about it. This will be something I'll just have to let come to me on it's own terms. I will say I deplore what I'm seeing of the Nova Corps. Epic fail on delivering a faithful representation of that team.
