Something I noticed about toy collectors...

I belong to several toy message boards, but don't post nearly as often as I used to on a few of them, because so many of the members are nothing but ungrateful, thankless little whiners who **** and moan about everything that comes out, every preview, you name it. As soon as there's a new reveal, there's 10 pages of people complaining about it. "Why this character",
or "I don't like the colors on his accessories", or "This sucks, when are we getting so and so" an on and on and on... They also frequently comment how this or that character should never have been made, forgetting that just because they don't like something doesn't mean nobody else does. I mean how much more selfish can you get than to say, a company should only make the characters I like...the hell with everybody else.

I can't quite figure it out, but the only common denominator I can see is age. Now, I'm about ten-twenty years older than most of the posters there, and I've noticed the difference here at the Mego Museum, where the posters are all about my age, and the tone is completely different. There's the occasional complaint here and there, but overall it's extremely positive. It seems the children of the 60's-70's are much more grateful for the new stuff vs. the children of the 80's-90's. I've argued with so many of them who are completely unable to grasp the fact that every toyline is not going to cater to their exact personal preferences, and that just because something isn't doesn't mean it "sucks" or is "lame", or my favorite..."epic fail"

It's amazing what a difference a generation makes.

There's a lot of 80s kids here. So I don't think it's necessarily a generational thing. Whenever you get a large group of guys talking about stuff there's always going to be a few rude, cruel, entitled man-children with way too much nerd rage. What helps, here, is the moderation style we have and all the hard work the mods do.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Plus most of us here realize they're just toys. We have more important things to worry about. Bills, family, our health. It just seems kind of silly to get worked up over some of the things others do.

I think it's like anything. Everyone needs to respect the opinions of others, whether it's viewed positive or negative in contrast to their own. I enjoy when people can actually discuss those differences in a fun, spirited way that does not degrade into name calling or exclamations of "Don't talk to me any more!" That's juvenile. People should be able to discuss variations on an idea without being so married to a concept that they end up fighting over it. And if people would like to see something a little different, I think that's fine. Variety is the spice of life. It's just all in how you talk about it.
It's not how hard you hit, but how hard you can be hit and still move forward.

Im probably one of those that complained the most on here, lol. Most of that is just unhappiness in general (mostly due to the lack of a good job) and nostalgia for a much different pop culture. I just deal with it though, some go to far and are just childish and ruin the toy, comic, and film boards on many sites.

Well, as long as you all agree with my opinion that oven-mitts and thick Mattel RA boots really make a figure, we can all get along.

Actually, I really do like the above....Also, I tend to notice that nerd rage over a >epic fail< line tends to be a very small but vocal group. Regardless of whether they appear online or at my LCS or what have you (also, regardless of age/generation).
    Mego...Re-Mego...It's all good!

The overall positive attitude sets a tone here. Basically people like those you describe don't last. Sure complaints happen but on the whole there is more spirited debate than pure anger.
